The other day, my husband shared the finances with me. We realized how little my income provides for our household expenses. He looked me in the eyes and said, "you know, I may make most of the money in our home, but your job is the richest paying and the most important". He's right. If you want to get rich, being an elementary school secretary is probably not the right career path to take. It isn't about money. It isn't about prestige. It is about those precious kids and their families. It is about loving them and being "mom" when mom isn't around. It is so much more then a job. And for me, it is the richest paying career I can imagine. There are so many precious moments, so many hilarious comments, so many memorable things... daily. And in the same breath, there are broken hearts, scared little ones, kids that are bullied and kids that are the bullies because of their broken hearts. There are little ones that melt your heart, many that break your heart, and many that make you soar. Today, I had the joy of watching some new members of our news crew. To see the light in the eyes of a young lady sparkle because she is a part of it has been pure joy. It makes my heart want to soar. I see hope, I see a vision, I see her wheels turning and an excitement beginning to overflow. I have had a love for this young lady since I met her. She is special. I just haven't been able to make her realize it. And this week.... I am watching her blossom right before my eyes. It is pure joy. I often tell my "office squad" that one day, I am going to write a book. I want to fill it with things that happen in a day at school. Fun things, great things, sad things, amazing things..... Invest in the life of a child, I promise you that it will change you.
